It is also not the right answer if the water path itself has not been identified. Installing a pump before knowing where the water is coming from can hide the real issue.

A sump pump also does not solve structural movement or failed membranes. If the problem is a cracking wall, a bowed wall, or a broken exterior barrier, the pump may be part of the final system but not the main repair.
