Scope being priced

This guide covers an interior water-collection system at the foundation perimeter. The work can include slab cutting, a drainage channel, wall drainage material, a sump connection, and restoration around the affected basement perimeter.

What changes the price

  • Linear footage and whether the work covers a short affected wall or a larger perimeter.
  • Slab thickness, reinforcement, obstructions, and how difficult the concrete is to remove.
  • Finished walls, flooring, fixtures, stairs, or storage that must be protected or removed.
  • Need for a new sump pit, discharge route, pump equipment, or electrical coordination.
  • Soil water conditions and the amount of restoration after the drain is installed.

What a quote should itemize

  • The exact wall lengths or perimeter sections included in the system.
  • Concrete cutting, debris removal, drain channel, drainage stone, and wall drainage materials.
  • Sump, discharge, pump, and electrical items when they are part of the design.
  • Finish removal and the level of slab, wall, or flooring restoration included afterward.
  • How water is expected to enter, move through, and leave the completed system.

Red flags in a quote

  • No linear footage or affected perimeter is identified.
  • The quote calls work 'full perimeter' without naming excluded walls or rooms.
  • Sump and discharge needs are left as vague allowances.
  • Restoration is described as included without stating the condition or material to be restored.
