When it does not
It is not the right fix when the issue is a broken pipe, a leaking fixture, or another plumbing failure inside the house. Those problems should go to a plumber first. It is also not the right answer if the wall is visibly moving or failing structurally. Waterproofing does not stabilize a bowing wall.
Waterproofing should also not be sold as the cure for every moisture problem in a basement.
